The main focus of the laboratory is to understand, at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels, the physiologic mechanisms that underlie lung immunity. At the macroscopic level, we determine the effects of aerobic exercise on asthma-related responses. At the microscopic level, we examine the role of the CD40 receptor, an immune molecule, in airway epithelial biology. Through these approaches, we analyze the molecular, cellular, and whole animal aspects of lung immunity in order to develop novel therapies to treat airway inflammatory diseases. |
